Employees in various fields across the United Kingdom are exposed everyday to the risk of industrial deafness. Continuous noise in the workplace can result to gradual hearing loss for industrial workers.

There are four different kinds of hearing loss. These are tinnitus, temporary and permanent loss of hearing, and acoustic trauma. Each type of hearing loss comes with specific attributes, and is treated by different methods.
Detecting the signs of industrial deafness is crucial to early diagnosis, as well as preventing more severe hearing damage.
Because of this, establishments with noisy work environments are required to follow the standards currently indicated in the Control of Noise at Work Regulations Act of 2005.
These regulations are implemented in order to protect workers from exposure to high levels of noise on the job. For instance, employers are required to provide hearing protection devices equipment and supplies, such as ear muffs and ear plugs. Such preventative measures have been instituted in order to reduce harmful noise in the workplace, as well as reducing the possibility of permanent hearing damage.
