Workshop tools and equipment: Buying Guide
Our selection of workshop equipment is designed to offer you as many options as possible, with different approaches to design making it easy for you to find equipment that fits in with your way of doing things. You can choose what you need in accordance with the type of items you work with, the training already provided to your employees, and the layout of your premises.
Our safety knives come in all many different designs and serve many functions. Some prioritise safety, with recessed blades minimising the risk of injury, such as our GR8 primo safety knife, while others have large open blades to prioritise speed. Some are designed to slice smoothly in one direction, while others can also be used to nick surfaces, something that’s particularly useful when cutting through thick, resistant tape.
If your employees are doing a lot of this type of work, it’s a good idea to use cutters that are designed to be ergonomic which minimises strain on the hands. Other cutters can be alternately pulled or pushed, offering a good measure of control. For cutting through objects, with minimal damage to the material on either side, stainless steel scissors are also a good option.
Whatever type of cutting device you use, you’ll need to keep it sharp in order to get the best performance out of it. Some of our cutters have replaceable blades included, and we stock those replacements so that it’s easy for you to guarantee optimal performance.
When it comes to tool storage, there are several elements to consider. How secure do you need them to be? How closely do you need to keep track of them? Do they need a dedicated separate storage unit (for instance, because you need many of them) or would it be easier to store them alongside other items?
We have extra drawers and shelves you can use to expand your cupboard spaces and make room for tools. Also popular are our shadow board peg boards, which make it easy to see at a glance which tools have been taken down for storage. If they’re not replaced at the end of the shift, you’ll notice the problem immediately, which reduces the risk of accidents happening, especially where bladed tools are concerned. Hanging up tools also has the advantage of making them easier to reach quickly.
In addition to tools and tool storage solutions, we stock workshop chairs. Like office chairs, they’re designed to be comfortable to sit on, but they allow a lot more freedom of movement for workers engaged in active tasks. They don’t have arms that can get in the way, and they can be raised to a greater height, with attachments for feet to rest on when in this position. This means that they’re a much better choice than office chairs for employees engaged in workshop activities.
